Energy stored in a capacitor
Previous Up Next

When a capacitor is connected to a battery, a brief current flows suggesting that there are energy transfers taking place in the circuit.

Since the current then stops flowing, the energy transfers must also stop.

Questions imageSo what happened to the energy that was previously transferred during the brief current flow?

A charged capacitor can be discharged through a motor and shown to do work. Therefore the capacitor must also be a store of energy.
